Deadline to enter Driven to Quit contest is today

Jacquie Dauda's risk of heart disease is half what it was a year ago, when she smoked. Since she quit last March she says she feels energized in a way that still surprises her.

"It's a whole year now," says Dauda, who had smoked for 18 years before she successfully quit in the 2006 Driven to Quit contest, "so that's awesome." Her kids are pretty pleased, too.

Not only is she living a healthier lifestyle, but her successful quitting won the family a 32-inch Sony HDTV, as one of seven regional winners in the provincewide contest.

Some 2,229 adults who smoke in the area serviced by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit participated in last year's contest, making up almost 10 per cent of the entries for the entire province.

Health unit staff are hoping to have even more people sign up this year to make an attempt to quit, and hopefully, like Dauda, quit for good.

PMA 2007: Sony Marries Imaging & HD

Sony of Canada is supplying its latest Cyber-shot W-series digital camera with a high definition component output accessory option for connecting to HDTVs, and integrating full 1080 HD photo viewing.

"As HDTV becomes more pervasive in American households, it is only natural to want to view all content in high definition, including photos," said Akehiro Kaiya, General Manager, Digital Imaging Products, Sony of Canada Ltd. "Our new cameras support a shift in customer behaviour: from viewing digital photos on a PC to having a full entertainment experience in the living room."

The line includes the flagship DSC-W200, which boasts a 12 MP sensor, as well as the DSC-W90 and DSC-W80, offering 8- and 7.2-MP resolution, respectively. Each camera is housed in a metal body, and sports a Carl Zeiss 3x optical zoom lens; optical viewfinder; and 2.5-inch LCD screen.

Accessories for these cameras include Sonys new VMC-MHC1 high-definition component cable; and the CSS-HD1 high-definition Cyber-shot Station which comes with the component cable and doubles as a charging station.

The new Cyber-shot W-series camera offers direct connection to an HDTV, which is ideal for integrating full 1080 HD photo-viewing into a home theater. The DSC-W80HDPR kit bundles a DSC-W80 camera and Sony's DPP-FPHD1 printer package for complete integration into your home theater system. This package consists of the VMC-MHC1 high-definition component cable, a Cyber-shot cradle, a remote commander, and a digital photo printer with high-definition component output.

The Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 camera will be in stores in March for about $250 in pink, white, black and silver colors. The Sony DSC-W80HDPR kit will be available for about $400 in April. Gizmodo first shots of Apple...

Noah over at Gizmodo already received his new AppleTV and takes us through the unboxing steps and his first impressions..He says that the packaging is one of the only things about the AppleTV that we haven't seen already. I was lucky enough to get one early. Biggest surprise? No cables in the box. Personally I cancelled my AppleTV order after I purchased my Sony Bravia 52" HDTV since I now have my MacMini right in my media cabinet which my tv stands on.. I guess you can say a true AppleTV experience..
