Samsung's latest Bordeaux LCD trio touts 15000:1 contrast ratio

It wasn't too long ago that we caught wind of Samsung's latest Bordeaux sets, but now the firm is one-upping itself by kicking out a new trio in the lineup with even more impressive specs. Jumping from 10000:1 to 15000:1 in the contrast ratio department, the 40-inch LN40M81BD, 46-inch LN46M81BD, and 52-inch LN52M81BD all tout the True Black Panel technology in order to bring "plasma-like blacks" to the LCD HDTV arena, and you'll also find three HDMI ports, "Full HD" resolution, and the obligatory sexy black frame to really set your living room theater off. Unfortunately, further details on the units are scarce, but we do expect all three sets to hit the Korean market soon for $3,518, $4,690, and $5,863 depending on size.[Via TrustedReviews] .

Samsung Shows Off Tulip, Q Line of HDTVs Ahead of Cebit

Samsung just showed off three new HDTV models in London on the eve of CeBIT. The Tulip line of LCDs comes in 37-, 40-, 46- and 52-inch sizes and fully supports 1080p. They'll be the successor to the Bordeaux line that tore up the LCD charts last year. The Tulips all have three HDMI ports (two in the back, one on the side), while the three largest ones also feature a 15,000:1 contrast ratio and what Samsung calls MoviePlus technology. Hooray for the complete lack of explanation of what that does! There's also a 9-in-1 memory card reader.

On the plasma front, Samsung's got the Q, available in 46- and 50-inch sizes. Same deal here: three HDMIs, MoviePlus, memory card reader and 15,000:1 contrast ratio.

Hopefully we'll get better shots and U.S. release date and pricing info in the days to come.

Wal-Mart Will Offer In-Store Pickup Of Online Purchases Nationwide ...

(TWICE) _ BENTONVILLE, ARK. ' Wal-Mart's online customers will soon be able to retrieve their purchases at their local Wal-Mart stores and save on shipping.

After a three-year pilot program, the world's largest retailer today launched the first phase of a national rollout that will bring its "site-to-store" service to most Wal-Mart locations in all 48 contiguous states by late summer.

Tens of thousands of online items in nearly 100 categories will be eligible for free delivery, including 2,232 CE SKUs. Indeed, Wal-Mart specifically targeted CE for the service, along with toys, sports, home and baby products, and cited a Samsung 32W-inch Click for the lowest price on dmnobieblanklcd');" onMouseOut="hideAd();" class=Hotlink>LCD Click for the lowest price on dmnobieblankhdtv');" onMouseOut="hideAd();" class=Hotlink>HDTV, retailing for $897, as a top-selling item from the trial.

Upgrade Your Home Entertainment

TV aficionados have a number of things to look forward to this year, as vendors are poised to upgrade everything from HDTVs to set-top boxes to recorders for both the living room and the PC. That means bigger screens, better color quality, and more choices in recording and viewing your favorite shows.

TVs are getting some of the more significant upgrades. To start with, Sharp's splashy demonstration of a whopping 108-inch prototype LCD set further cements the notion that LCD can compete with plasma at the largest screen sizes, says Eric Haruki, IDC research director for digital TVs.

Sharp's new plant, which produced the megaunit, can also make cheaper 46-inch and 52-inch LCDs. The upgraded capacity drives down prices at those sizes, Haruki adds. When Sony and Samsung open their own next-generation LCD plants later this year, that downward price trend will continue.
