Consumer Reports looks at JVC's HD-58S998
Just because a TV is a rear projection doesn't mean its got to be deep. Consumer Reports has JVC's flat LCoS up on their test bench and found it to be great picture. Sure, it costs a bit more then the sets LCoS brothern but it's flat. That way the set can be pushed directly up to the wall or even hung up if that's your type of thing. They found some flaws in the picture and knocked it down a bit due to lack of cable card, but overall found it to be a nice HDTV. If you seeking a slender, big screen HDTV, this might be the best way to go. .
Marriott Goes Digital
Marriott, JW Marriott and Renaissance To Become First Lodging Brands to Offer HDTV & Other Digital ServicesMarriott Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, and Renaissance Hotels & Resorts will become the first lodging brands to offer high-definition, LCD televisions with a digital connectivity panel in all its guest rooms in the U.S. and Canada. Using the new plug-in panel, guests will be able to connect a host of digital devices to view on the flat panel, high-definition screen, including laptops, camcorders, digital cameras, video games and more. The standard 32 inch televisions will also be equipped with a 25-watt stereo speaker system so guests can listen to the tunes on their MP3 players and iPods; no headphones required. 'Today's hotel guests typically travel with many digital devices, not just a laptop, so providing more than high-speed Internet access and WiFi is a must,' said Bob McCarthy, president, North American lodging operations and global brand management, Marriott International.
Jean-Jacques Taylor on the Cowboys and more (3/13)
Jean-Jacques Taylor: At my desk in my office at home with the DirecTV guy in my bedroom trying to hook up HDTV. If there's a long delay, it probably means he has knocked my flat screen off the wall and I'm chasing him through the neighborhood. Now that I've set up the parameters, let's roll. One more thing, nothing is off limits except volleyball disk golf. jlust22: Are there anything to the rumors of Julius Jones being shopped this off-season? Since he is going into the last year of his contract, might the Cowboys be willing to deal him for the right price? Jean-Jacques Taylor: I don't mean to brag, but we've been reporting that in various mediums – the blog and the Cowboys newsletter – for months. Dallas will move him for the right deal, in part, because they don't think he's special.
The Yamaha YHT-370 5.1 audio system
5.1 audio is the unsung hero of a solid home theater setup. At least, this is the conclusion that I have come to after recently making the switch. A next gen console will give you fantastic draw distances and more textures, but the gameplay remains mostly the same. HDTV will give you nice crisp lines and a wide aspect ratio, but everything is still just happening on a flat screen in front of you. Surround sound though, that puts you in the game. It's no longer just something happening in front of you, it's all around you. The unit I picked was a Yamaha YHT-370. It falls pretty much right in the mid range of all-in-one home theater systems on price at $399 MSRP. It outputs 720 watts at a constant 120 watts to each speaker. Not a lot, but more than enough to fill you average living room with sound.
